Harriet Hosmer
Sculptor
American sculptor who made marble busts, such as Daphne and Medusa, Beatrice Cenci, and Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra.
She studied anatomy under Dr. Joseph Nash McDowell at the Missouri Medical College.
She also designed and constructed machinery, including machinery for sculpture.
Her father encouraged her to take up physical activities.
She lived in Rome and was acquainted with writer Nathaniel Hawthorne.
