Hans Heysen
Painter
Australian artist best known for his watercolor paintings of Australian gum trees and landscapes.
He left school at fourteen to begin working, but later studied art at night school.
He was a nine-time winner of the Wynne Prize and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1945.
His daughter, Nora Heysen, also became a successful artist.
Raymond Mayson was another artist appointed to the Order of the British Empire.
