Guillaume Coustou The Elder
Sculptor
French sculptor and academic who made marble busts, such as Daphne chased by Apollo and Hercule sur le bûcher.
He won the Colbert prize and received a 4 year scholarship to the French Academy in Rome, but soon left.
He is best known for the their statue the "Horse Tamers".
His brother was French sculptor Nicolas Coustou.
He and Max Beckmann both had work in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
