Nicaraguan poet, novelist, and author known for Verse Sobre la Grama; Waslala; Amor insurrecto, and other works. Her numerous literary honors include the Biblioteca Breve and Casa de las Americas awards.
She studied in Madrid, Spain and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Her gender-themed 1988 novel, La Mujer Habitada, was published in many languages and was placed on reading lists at several American universities.
She married American journalist Charles Castaldi and subsequently raised four children.
She and author Claribel Alegria share a Nicaraguan heritage.
