Gerald Stern

Poet who received the National Book Award for This Time: New and Selected Poems. His other poetry collections include The Naming of Beasts, Bread Without Sugar, and In Beauty Bright.
He studied at both the University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University.
American Sonnets, his 2002 poetry collection, was shortlisted for the International Griffin Poetry Prize.
He married Patricia Miller in 1952. Before divorcing, he and Miller became parents to two children.
He was inspired by the poetry of T.S. Eliot.
