Broadcast journalist remembered for anchoring the ABC Evening News and ABC World News Tonight. He also pioneered America Held Hostage, a half-hour segment that was later renamed Nightline.
After graduating from Wabash College in 1946, he worked for a Gary, Indiana radio station and for a Chicago, Illinois CBS affiliate television station.
He received a Purple Heart for his U.S. Army service during World War II.
His marriage to Henrietta Mary Harpster produced five sons: James, John, Robert, Thomas, and Dean.
Ted Koppel became their as the host of Nightline, a program that Reynolds had initiated during the period of the Iran hostage crisis.
