Rose to fame as a political analyst for NBC News, and fellow at the New America Foundation. He raised controversy when he revealed in a February 2017 Washington Post op-ed that he resigned from the CIA because of concerns of public safety arising from Donald Trump's presidency.
He graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University with his degree in international relations. He subsequently earned his master's degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, where he was given a prize for a superior thesis.
His experience working on the Barack Obama White House was featured in the 2018 book West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House. He served as a CIA intelligence officer between 2006-2017.
He was originally born and raised in Dallas, Texas.
He worked as a special assistant to Barack Obama during the later part of his career as a CIA officer while loaned to the National Security Council.
