Eugenio Montale
Poet
Renowned Italian lyric poet, author, and 1975 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. His best-known works include Ossi di seppia, Le Occasioni, and Accordi e pastelli.
He spent time as both an accountant and a World War I soldier before publishing Ossi di seppia, his first poetry collection, in 1925.
He studied operatic vocal technique with the their baritone Ernesto Sivori.
He had a relationship with Irma Brandeis, a Dante scholar.
His poetry was influenced by the work of T.S. Eliot.
