Edward Maufe
Architect
Received knighthood for his work on the Imperial War Graves Commission. Known for his work on memorials and places of worship, such as the Air Forces Memorial and the Guildford Cathedral.
He attended St. John's College at Oxford. His first blueprint was Norfolk's Kelling Hall, devised in 1912. He fought in World War I, beginning in 1917, but was demobilized in 1919.
His final project was St. Nicholas Church at Saltdean in 1964, after which he retired.
He married Gladys Prudence in 1910 and had one child who died in 1968.
He and explorer Samuel Baker were both honored with knighthoods.
