She attended the University of Kent and later became an assistant at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield. 50 Shades of Grey began as Twilight fan fiction, written under the pseudonym "Snowqueens Icedragon."
She was named one of The World's 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine in 2012.
She was born Erika Mitchell in London, England. In 1987, she married screenwriter and director Niall Leonard. She has two sons.
She and Penny Jordan are well known in the world of romance novels.
