Italian singer-songwriter best known for his Grammy-winning 1958 smash hit "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)." He was also an actor with more than forty film credits to his name.
He served in the military and enrolled in acting classes in 1951.
He became a politician and social activist later in life, serving as a congressman in Italian Parliament.
He is the youngest of four children born to a policeman and a housewife.
One of his most popular songs, "Dio, Come Ti Amo," was covered by American singer Jack Jones.
