Brazillian singer-songwriter known for being one of the most successful artists to sing in Portuguese. He is known for his easy-going samba, jazz and Latin dance style. One of his most popular songs is titled "Samurai."
In 1973, he formed the group Luz, Som, Dimensão which played songs by The Beatles. He started his solo career in 1976 with his first album, Djavan, which featured the hit song "Flor De Lis."
He was nominated in the 2016 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Portuguese Language Song and Best Singer-Songwriter Album.
His father is of Dutch descent and his mother is black.
The singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder played on his 1982 album Luz.
