Indian pitcher who, along with Rinku Singh, became the first Indian ever to sign a contract with a major American sports team, signing with the MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008. He got the opportunity as a result of winning the Indian reality show The Million Dollar Arm.
He got his start training in the javelin throw at age 14. He later won a gold medal in the event at the 2006 National School Games in Pune.
His story formed the basis for the 2014 Disney movie Million Dollar Arm, starring Jon Hamm.
He was raised primarily by his maternal grandmother due to the fact that his parents could not afford to raise him.
He was portrayed by actor Madhur Mittal in Million Dollar Arm.
