She studied at Eastern New Mexico University.
In 1997, she first read Brokeback Mountain as a short story written by Annie Proulx in an issue of The New Yorker.
She was raised in St. Louis, Missouri.
She helped write the screenplay for Brokeback Mountain, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal.
