Known for her many performances with the Bavarian State Opera and for both her coloratura and lyric soprano roles, Damrau played major parts in operas such as The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, and Rigoletto. She also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, The Royal Opera, and several other world their opera houses.
In the late 1990s, she won the International Mozart Competition and was listed as Opernwelt magazine's 'Young Singer of the Year.'
Her numerous honors include a 2014 International Opera Award, a 2014 Echo Klassik honor, and a 2008 German Record Critics' Award.
She and her husband, French singer Nicolas Teste, welcomed two sons in the second decade of the 2000s.
In 2004, she sang the lead role in a La Scala production of Europa Riconosciuta conducted by Riccardo Muti.
