His mother taught him to play tennis when he was a boy.
He was a runner-up at the 2013 St. Petersburg Open in doubles.
He was born in Orenburg, Russia but moved to Tashkent, Uzbekistan when he was three months old.
He lost to Roger Federer in the 2006 Australian Open; Federer went on to win the tournament.
