French sculptor and painter known for his bronze statues and other works, including Victor of the Cockfight, made in 1864.
He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and won the Prix de Rome in 1859.
His Triumph of the Republic is possibly his best known and most successful work.
His parents raised him in Toulouse.
He and Auguste Rodin were contemporaries.
