He was a dominant youth chess player in his younger years and he earned a degree in logic from Charles University in Prague.
He was very successful in the 37th Chess Olympiad 2006, having 8.5 points from 12 games against world-class competition.
He was raised in the Czech Republic.
He is alongside Magnus Carlsen as one of the greatest chess masters in the world.
