David Harvey
Anthropologist
Famous as both an anthropologist and a geographer, this City University of New York professor published articles in numerous academic journals, becoming one of the most frequently cited writers in social sciences and humanities publications.
After graduating from St. John's College, Cambridge, he published an important, 1969 work titled Explanation in Geography.
His 1973 work Social Justice and the City was heavily influenced by Marxist ideas.
He grew up in Gillingham, Kent, England, and later settled in New York City.
He was a vocal supporter of Henri Lefebvre's "right to the city" urban social philosophy.
