David Amess

British conservative politician who is known for being a parliament member representing Southend West. He was killed in a knife attack at a constituent surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England.
He served as a member of parliament, first representing Basildon from 1983 to 1997, and then Southend West from 1997 until his death.
He took many consequential votes throughout his career. He voted for the war in Iraq in 2003 and voted against the war in Syria. He supported the Brexit referendum in 2016. He opposed abortion rights and LGBTQ+ equality rights. He was a supporter of bringing back capital punishment to the UK.
He was born to a working-class family in Plaistow, Essex. His father, James Amess, was an electrician. His mother, Maud Martin, was a dressmaker. He was married to a woman named Julia Arnold. They had one son and four daughters.
In the wake of his death, he was honored by both British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer.
