He grew up playing for Dandenong Cricket Club in Australia.
His selection to the English national team was heavily protested.
He raised two daughters, Sophie and Olivia, and his brother James also became a professional cricketer.
Ryan Sidebottom's back injury led to Pattinson's Test selection.
