He ended his studies at the University of Maryland, College Park to launch a business that flew college students to popular spring break destinations.
His purchase of stock in the Six Flags amusement parks and his mismanagement of the investment led the parks to file for bankruptcy.
With his fashion model wife, Tanya Ivey, he had three children.
He and Don Klosterman both owned National Football League (NFL) teams.
