Author who gained acclaim for her debut memoir Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System, published in October 2019. She is an advocate against sex trafficking, and the subject of the 2020 Netflix documentary Murder to Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story .
She was put up for adoption as an infant. As a teenager she was trafficked as an involuntary prostitute.
After she was sentenced to serve prison time for killing a man while working as a prostitute, her trial went viral and was highlighted by various celebrities, including Snoop Dogg. She co-founded the non-profit organization Foundation for Justice, Freedom, and Mercy after leaving prison.
Since her release from prison she has found steadfast support from her husband.
Her story was picked up to be adapted into a scripted series in August 2020 by La La Anthony and 50 Cent.
