He played junior rugby for the Otahuhu Leopards.
He underwent surgery for an injured shoulder in August 2012.
His father, John Vuna, played for Tonga in rugby union.
He and fellow New Zealander Beauden Barrett both became world-their rugby players, representing their country in international play.
