He formed a band with his brother as a teenager and performed in clubs around Atlanta.
He has also performed as a solo artist and released his New Earth Mud album in 2002.
He was briefly married to actress Lala Sloatman. He and actress Kate Hudson later married for seven years, welcoming son Ryder Russell Robinson before divorcing. He married his third wife, Allison Bridges, in 2009. The same year they welcomed a daughter, Cheyenne Genevieve Robinson.
His first wife, Lala, is the niece of musician Frank Zappa.
