As a child, she was raised on her family's ranch. In 2012, she earned a BA in political science from the South Dakota State University.
She served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011, as well as the US House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019.
She was born to a mother named Corinne and a father named Ron. She married her husband Bryon at age 20, and they had a son named Booker, two daughters named Kassidy and Kennedy, and a dog named Hazel.
