Chandler Egan
Golfer
One of the top professional golfers of the early 20th century who was also an influential golf course designer.
He started playing golf at age 12 then continued playing at Harvard, where he won the individual title as a sophomore, and won the U.S. Amateur in 1904 and 1905.
After retiring from playing he designed some 18 hole golf courses, nine of which were in Oregon.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, the mecca of golf in the late 19th century.
He teamed up with the renowned golf course architect Alister MacKenzie to renovate Pebble Beach, and create The Union League Golf and Country Club in California.
