Renowned golf course architect who designed courses on four continents; also designed military camouflage for troops during World War I.

Before Fame

He originally trained to be a medical doctor and served as a civilian doctor in the British army during the Boer War. He won a golf-hole design competition in 1914 that was organized by Country Life magazine and judged by the famed Bernard Darwin.

Trivia

His golf course designs were ranked the finest in the world and included such courses as the Century Country Club in Purchase, New York, the Augusta National Golf Club, the Cypress Point Club, and the Meadow Club.

Family Life

He was born to Mary Jane Smith MacKenzie and Dr. William Scobie MacKenzie, both of Scottish extraction.
