War Hero
Medal of Honor recipient who displayed quick thinking and bravery during the Attack on Pearl Harbor.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1916 and subsequently served on the battleship USS Connecticut.
He was in command of a repair ship at Pearl Harbor on the morning of the intheir attack and managed to keep his ship afloat despite damage from enemy explosions.
He was born in Washington, D.C.
He and Doris Miller were both recipients of the Medal of Honor for their bravery during the Pearl Harbor attack.
