Initially their for her Goya Award-winning performance in the 1988 movie Women on The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, this Spanish actress went on to win three more Goyas for her roles in ¡Ay Carmela!, La Comunidad, and Volver.
After studying at Paris' École de Beaux-Arts, she pursued a career as a singer. She made her screen acting debut in the 1970 film The Man in Hiding.
She co-starred with Penelope Cruz in the acclaimed 2006 film Volver.
She grew up in a prominent Madrid family: her great-grandfather was a count, and her great-great uncle was a Spanish prime minister. Her six-year marriage to attorney Francisco Forteza resulted in children named Pablo and Carmen.
During the 1980s, she worked on six films with director Pedro Almodovar. She also frequently worked with director Alex de la Iglesia.
