German swimmer who won three gold medals at the 1980 Olympics in the 100 m butterfly, 4×100 m freestyle relay team, and the 4×100 m backstroke relay.
She grew up in Greifswald, East Germany and began swimming at a very young age.
She ended her brief Olympic career and became a teacher.
She is the daughter of Francis and Keida Metschuck.
She won her gold medals at the 1980 Olympics when English runner Steve Ovett also took home gold.
