She took an interest in lifting and fitness as a teenager, and made her professional bodybuilding debut when she was 21.
She became the first woman to lift more than her body weight overhead with just one arm.
She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
She is credited with strongly influencing women's bodybuilding, paving the way for future competitors such as Joan Laurer.
