Irish-American trumpeter known for playing with Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller.
He interpreted Bix Beiderbecke's cornet solo in "I'm Coming Virginia" at a 1938 Carnegie Hall concert with Benny Goodman.
In 1947, he was invited to perform at Louis Armstrong's Town Hall Jazz Concert.
Hackett married his only wife Edna in the 1930s and they raised a son named Ernie and a daughter named Barbara.
Hackett was a soloist for mood music albums by Jackie Gleason.
