Guitarist known for his work with The Knack, a 1980s pop group best remembered for its chart-topping hit "My Sharona." He also performed with such bands and musicians as The Cowsills and Robby Krieger.
The Knack's lead singer, Doug Fieger, invited Averre to play with the band.
In 1979, The Knack's their song, "My Sharona," was featured on the soundtrack of Reality Bites.
He grew up near Los Angeles, California.
He once toured with singer Bette Midler.
