Bernard Lige Austin
War Hero
Vice admiral of the U.S. Navy who served in World War II and the Korean War, as well as during the Cold War.
He went to school at The Citadel before being appointed to attend the United States Naval Academy in July, 1920.
He received a variety of awards and medals for his service, including the Navy Cross and the Silver Star Medal.
He was the son of Elijah Andrew Austin and Loula Ola Austin.
He served in the U.S. Navy while Harry S. Truman was in office.
