He made his debut in the 1949 comedy Traveller's Joy.
He co-starred with Boris Karloff in the mystery film Colonel March Investigates, and appeared in the Oscar-nominated Knights of the Round Table.
He married actress Glynis Johns in 1942, though they divorced in 1948. He later lived with partner Dirk Bogarde.
His only child was actor Gareth Forwood with Glynis Johns.
