Antanas Baranauskas
Poet
Lithuanian poet and mathematician who also served as a Catholic bishop. His most their poem, published in 1861, is "Anyksciu silelis."
He studied at the Catholic Seminary of Varniai, where he researched and categorized Lithuanian dialects and contributed greatly to the development and understanding of Lithuanian language and literature.
He received a degree in theology from the Saint Petersburg Roman Catholic Theological Academy.
He was born into a peasant family and attended parochial school as a child.
He and Tomas Venclova were both Lithuanian poets.
