Poet known for Before the Birth of One of Her Children, To My Dear and Loving Husband, and other domestic-themed works. Although many of her works are positive and optimistic, others, including The Prologue, contain hints of sarcasm and irony.
She was born into an aristocratic English family, and she immigrated to the New World in 1630 on The Arbella, a Puritan ship.
She was the first British colonial poet in North America to publish her work.
She was married to Simon Bradstreet, with whom she had eight children.
She was an ancestor of Herbert Hoover.
