She studied at elite all-girls school, Wellesley College, where she concentrated in Art History.
Her short film, A Weekend Home (1975), won the top prize at the American Film Institute's National Student Festival.
She was born in Florida, but raised in upstate New York.
Actress Julia Roberts starred in her film, Mystic Pizza.
