Tenor and soprano saxophonist who played with many different bands and artists, including Gerry Mulligan's sextet.
He served in the United States Air Force and collaborated with a wide variety of other performers when his service concluded.
One of Jim Henson's Muppets shares the name "Zoot" and also plays saxophone.
He was born and raised in Inglewood, California.
He performed on some of Jack Kerouac's recordings.
