Muslim-American scholar who is known for being the co-founder of Zaytuna College in Berkley where he also teaches courses on Arabic law, history, and Islamic spirituality. He is also known for co-founding United For Change, an organization designed to help include and diversify the Muslin community.
He earned his Bachelors degree in International Relations from American University, his Masters in Political Science at Rutgers University, and later Islamic Sciences in Syria. He began teaching Arabic classes in 2003 at Zaytuna College.
He is known for having been one of nine Muslin scholars who appeared in a YouTube video denouncing Militant Islam after 9/11. He is also known for publishing multiple articles on the New Islamic Directions website and for having written several books on the subject as well.
He was born and raised in Berkley, California.
He has published several papers on Malcolm X and a Muslin Response to Pope Francis and The Climate Crisis.
