Nicknamed "ZAK", he won the Ranji Trophy title with Mumbai, lead the Indian pace attack during the early 2000's.
He was chosen for the first intake of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore in 2000 before making his Test debut later that year.
He set a world record for the highest Test score by a number 11 when he scored 75 against Bangladesh in 2004.
He met his first wife, Isha Sharvani, in 2005.
He was recalled to the Test and ODI team for the tour of South Africa in 2006 following an injury to Munaf Patel.
