Director of such blockbuster films as 300, Watchmen, and Man of Steel. He first became known for his work on the 2004 remake of the popular horror film Dawn of the Dead.
He began his career as a cinematographer for BMW and Nike commercials.
He co-founded the production company Cruel and Unusual Films in 2004.
He married his second wife, Deborah Snyder, in 2004. With his first wife, Denise Snyder, he had four children, then he went on to have two more with Deborah.
He directed and produced the 2011 movie Sucker Punch, which starred Vanessa Hudgens.
