Actor of stage and screen who starred in the NBC TV movie Farewell to Manzanar, and the Masterpiece Theater series, A Town Like Alice.
He earned a degree in accounting from Northwestern University and taught a class in Japanese language at the University of Chicago.
He appeared several times on Broadway, including in the acclaimed Auntie Mame, which was nominated for eight Tony Awards and received three.
His parents were Japanese immigrants. After the Pearl Harbor tragedy, he and his brother attempted to join the U.S. Army and were laughed away.
He appeared with Cesar Romero in the B movie, Seven Women From Hell.
