Accomplished wrestler as well as mixed martial artist who once held the titles of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, the AJPW Triple Crown Championship, and the GHC Heavyweight Championship all at the same time.
He began his career in Union of Wrestling Forces International in 1992.
In 2002, he was ranked the 27th best singles wrestler of 500 by Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
He was born in Sumida, Tokyo.
He fought in a mixed martial arts match against Don Frye in 2002 which was hailed as The Fight of the Year.
