Yanka Kupala

Twentieth-century author who is remembered for The Little Flute, Dream on a Barrow, and other poetry collections. He is considered one of the most important Belarusian writers of his generation.
He published his first poem, "Ziarno," in the Polish language, writing under the pen name of "K-a." His later works were written in the Belarusian language.
He died after falling down a flight of stairs in Moscow; some speculate that he was actually murdered.
His widow helped to establish a literary museum in Belarus.
He was influenced by the work of Russian author Maxim Gorky.
