Womesh Chunder Bonnerjee

The first President of Indian National Congress in 1885, who was the first Indian to contest the election for the British House of Commons.
He worked as a clerk at the firm of W.P. Gillanders, Attorneys of the Calcutta Supreme Court.
He was the most respected barrister in the Calcutta High Court, and was the first Indian to act as a Standing Counsel, which he did four times.
His grandson, Joyanto Nath Chaudhuri, became head of the Indian Army.
He and Mohammad Azharuddin were both members of Indian National Congress.
