Architect who designed many of the Carnegie Libraries in California; known for his Greek Revival neoclassical style. His buildings were located in over 160 cities in California.
He began building his business in 1894 in Watsonville, California, and by 1897, he established a branch office in Salinas.
His business benefited from the 1906 Earthquake, where his safe and practical designs were already in high demand.
He worked with his father as a builder and designer; he married Maggie Haymaker in 1891, the sister of the woman to whom he was originally engaged but who died before the wedding.
He and Frank Lloyd Wright both established innovative legacies that influenced generations after them.
