William Tubman

Liberian politician who was the 19th President of Liberia from 1944 until 1971. He is often regarded by the Liberian people as the father of modern Liberia.
He began a career in politics and became a Senator after being named, at age 19, a Methodist lay pastor.
His presidency was marked by the influx of foreign investment in his country and from 1950-1960, Liberia experienced an average annual growth of 11.5%.
He married Antoinette Tubman.
He and Ellen Johnson both served as President of Liberia.
