William Shea

About

While his actual occupation was a lawyer, he will forever be remembered as the founder of the Continental League in baseball. In his honor, the New York Mets ballpark for 45 years was named after him.

Before Fame

His earliest job was for a couple of state insurance bureaucracies and later he was asked my New York mayor Robert Wagner to organize a committee dedicated to getting baseball back in New York.

Trivia

He was essential in the establishment of the New York Islanders in hockey as well.

He was born and died in New York City.
